OGODOBIRI

SYNOPSIS
OGODOBIRI is the story of a man (Ogodobiri) who decides to commit suicide because everything seems to be going against him. His wife has left him for the richest man in the village and there is no job forthcoming from the Oil Company near by.

He climbs a tree by the riverbank and is about to place the noose around his neck when three mysterious maidens, returning from the annual masquerade dance in the village walk to the bank of the river. They transform into river goddesses and are about to proceed on the journey into the sea world when one of them announces the presence of a human. They command Ogodobiri to descend from the tree. An argument ensues among the three maidens on what to do with Ogodobiri since he has uncovered their secret. One says he should be blinded or killed, another says he should be struck deaf and dumb while the third says he should be allowed to go without any harm.

They agree to the opinion of the third maiden and proceed to ask Ogodobiri why he decided to commit suicide. He tells them how the rich man oppresses everyone in the village because he has money. The first maiden tells him he would do worse than the rich man if he has money. Ogodobiri says it is not possible; that he would be kind and fair to everyone.

The maidens decide to experiment with him. They will make him rich beyond his imagination but on the condition that Ogodobiri keeps to his word of being kind and fair to everyone.

Within a short time, Ogodobiri becomes very rich, and true to the maidens’ observation, he becomes worse than the rich man. So much so that the village decide to put a stop to his excesses. But can they stop him? And the maidens, what will they do to Ogodobiri? Can the people really say “no” to oppression? The intrigue is multi dimensional.
